Reverend Don Allen was pastor of New Home Baptist Church and after four years decided to leave and start a non-traditional church in the North Lakeland area.  On July 31, 1988, the first service of Northside Baptist Church was held at the home on Don and Linda Watson.  Nineteen people were there for the services.  In August of 1988 they rented “The Barn” located on Park Byrd Road.  In January 1989 Scott Lake Baptist Church became Northside’s sponsor.  Northside members worked with telemarketing and in March 1989 they left “The Barn” and went to Churchwell Elementary School.  There were 130 in attendance for the first service at Churchwell.  Due to finances the congregation voted to return to “The Barn” while they looked at available properties to purchase.  On November 25, 1990 Pastor Don Allen resigned.  December 15, 1990 Reverend Dick Cole was accepted as Interim Pastor.  Reverend James McKeithen became Interim Pastor in May of 1991.  In April of 1991 Northside purchased the property at 3131 Duff Road.  This property was Emanuel Baptist Church.

Emanuel moved out and Northside moved in.  September 1, 1991 motion to call Reverend Todd Pope as Pastor of Northside was accepted.  May 21, 1992 Northside petitioned the South Florida Baptist Assocation for membership.  On August 16, 1992 Northside Baptist Church was constituted.  January 26, 1994 recommendation to ordain Dan Yaw as a Minister was accepted.  Reverend Dan Yaw continued his education and in May 1999 he became Dr. Dan Yaw.

On December 12, 1999 Pastor Todd Pope resigned.  Following Pastor Pope’s resignation, Northside called Dr. Dan Yaw as Pastor of Northside Baptist Church.  Dr. Yaw became pastor of Northside in January of 2000.  During these years under the leadership of Pastor Dan Yaw, Northside has taken the mission field very much to heart.  Our Faith-Promise Missions Outreach has truly been blessed and Northside has been blessed in return.
